These shrimp-filled mushroom bites are incredibly easy to make and bursting with savory, juicy flavor—every bite is a delight!
Ingredients
- Mushrooms – about 10 (preferably larger ones for easier stuffing)
- Seasoned shrimp paste – 100g
- Cornstarch (for coating mushrooms) – 2 tsp
Sauce:
- Light soy sauce – 2 tbsp
- Oyster sauce – 1 tbsp
- Sugar – ½ tsp
- Cornstarch – 1 tsp
- Water – ½ small cup

Instructions
Step 1: Clean the mushrooms
Soak them in water with a little flour or baking soda for about 5 minutes to remove any dirt, then rinse well.

Step 2: Remove the stems
Gently twist off the stems, being careful not to break the caps. The hollowed-out mushrooms will hold the shrimp filling, so bigger caps work best. (Mine were a bit too small this time—stuffing was a tight squeeze!)

Step 3: Dust with cornstarch
Lightly coat the inside of each mushroom with cornstarch—this helps the shrimp paste stick better.

Step 4: Stuff with shrimp paste
Fill each mushroom with the shrimp paste, pressing gently to pack it in snugly (see photo). Repeat until all mushrooms are stuffed.

Step 5: Steam
Arrange the mushrooms in a steamer and steam over high heat for 8 minutes once the water boils.

Step 6: Done steaming!
They’ll come out fragrant and juicy—perfect!

Step 7: Make the sauce
Mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and ½ cup of water in a bowl.

Step 8: Thicken the sauce
Pour the juices from the steamed mushrooms into the sauce mixture. Simmer over low heat until thickened.

Step 9: Serve
Drizzle the sauce over the mushrooms and enjoy—healthy and delicious!

Step 10: Meal idea
Pair with stir-fried chicken and vegetable noodles for a quick, wholesome dinner. Great for busy weeknights or when you’re watching your calories!

Tips
- If using unseasoned shrimp paste, add salt and white pepper to taste.
- For frozen shrimp paste, thaw it quickly by submerging the sealed package in cold water.
- Pick larger mushrooms—they’re easier to stuff.
- Don’t oversteam, or the mushrooms will turn rubbery.
Dig in—these are seriously addictive! 😋

1 tsp cornstarch
½ tsp sugar
½ small cup water
Directions
- Soak the mushrooms in water with a bit of flour or baking soda for about 5 minutes. This helps get rid of any hidden dirt.
- Gently twist off the stems without breaking the mushroom caps. We want a nice hollow space to stuff the shrimp paste. Pro tip: choose larger mushrooms—they’re easier to stuff. Mine were a bit small, so it was a tight fit!
- Lightly coat the inside of each mushroom with cornstarch. This helps the shrimp paste stick better.
- Spoon or pipe the shrimp paste into each mushroom cap. Press it down gently with your finger to pack it in nicely.
- Place the stuffed mushrooms on a plate and steam over high heat for 8 minutes once the water is boiling.
- They should come out fragrant and juicy—don’t they smell amazing?
- In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and water until smooth.
- Pour any juices from the steamed mushrooms into the sauce. Heat over low heat and stir until it thickens into a glossy glaze.

Notes
- If your shrimp paste is plain, season it with salt and white pepper before using.
- Frozen shrimp paste? No problem—just thaw it in cold water while still sealed.
- Always go for larger mushrooms—they’re easier to work with.
- Don’t over-steam them, or the mushrooms will turn mushy.
