Craving a cool and delicious iced matcha latte but want to skip the Starbucks line? This recipe lets you create your barista-worthy iced matcha latte at home in just a few minutes!
Ingredients
- Ice cubes
- 240ml Oat milk (or your preferred milk alternative)
- 4 pumps (or to taste) vanilla syrup
- 4 scoops matcha powder
- Cold cream (optional)
Equipment
- Shaker bottle
- Tall glass
- Strainer (optional)
- Spoon (optional)
Instructions
- Chill your glass: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Leave some room at the top for your matcha latte. Let the ice sit in the glass for a minute or two to pre-chill it. This ensures your iced matcha latte stays nice and cold for longer.
- Measure your milk: Pour 1 cup (240ml) of your chosen milk alternative (oat milk, almond milk, dairy milk, etc.) into a measuring cup.
- Sweeten to taste: Add your desired amount of vanilla syrup to the measuring cup with the milk. Start with 4 pumps (or about 2 tablespoons) of vanilla syrup and stir it gently to combine. Taste the mixture and adjust the sweetness to your preference. You can add more vanilla syrup a little at a time until you reach your desired level of sweetness.
- Prepare the matcha: Carefully scoop out 4 scoops of matcha powder. Aim for a light and even scoop to avoid using too much matcha. If you don’t have a measuring scoop, a rounded teaspoon is roughly equivalent to one scoop. Sift the matcha powder into the shaker bottle using a fine-mesh strainer. This helps to remove any clumps and ensures a smoother matcha latte. (Note: Sifting is optional, but recommended for a better texture.)
- Combine everything: Pour the milk mixture with vanilla syrup into the shaker bottle with the matcha powder. Add the ice cubes from your pre-chilled glass on top.
Shaking it Up!
Here comes the fun part! There are two ways to achieve a frothy and well-combined iced matcha latte:
Method 1: Using a Shaker Bottle (Recommended)
- Secure the lid tightly on your shaker bottle.
- Shake vigorously: Hold the shaker bottle firmly with both hands and shake it vigorously for 30 seconds to a minute. You should hear a whooshing sound as the ingredients combine. The shaking time may vary depending on the size and design of your shaker bottle. Aim for a nice frothy consistency on the matcha.
Method 2: No Shaker? No Problem!
- If you don’t have a shaker bottle, you can use a mason jar or another container with a tight-fitting lid.
- Blend with a spoon: Pour the milk mixture with vanilla syrup, matcha powder, and ice cubes into your chosen container. Secure the lid tightly and blend the ingredients vigorously with a spoon for 1-2 minutes.
- Open and stir (optional): If using a mason jar or a container that’s difficult to stir effectively, open the lid carefully after about 30 seconds of vigorous blending. Push down any clumps of matcha stuck on the sides with your spoon and continue stirring for another 30 seconds or until the matcha is well combined and frothy.
The Final Touches
- Strain (optional): If using a shaker bottle or a container where some matcha powder might not have fully dissolved, you can use a strainer to remove any remaining clumps before pouring the matcha latte into your glass. Hold the strainer over your glass and slowly pour the matcha latte mixture through it.
- Pour and enjoy: Discard the ice remaining in the shaker bottle and gently pour the frothy matcha latte into your pre-chilled glass filled with ice cubes.
- Creamy finish (optional): If you prefer a creamier iced latte, gently pour a thin layer of cold cream over the top of your matcha latte.
Tips
- Adjust the sweetness: This recipe uses 4 pumps of vanilla syrup, but feel free to adjust the amount to your taste preference. You can also use other flavored syrups or a drizzle of honey or agave nectar for a different flavor twist.
- Matcha powder: The quality of your matcha powder can significantly impact the taste of your drink. Look for a good quality, finely ground matcha powder for the best results.
- Milk alternatives: Feel free to substitute the oat milk with your favorite dairy or non-dairy milk alternative.
Enjoy your refreshing homemade iced matcha latte!
