Yes, people have been adding protein powder to coffee for various reasons.

Usually, people have many reasons for adding protein powder to their drinks. However, the main reason is to use it as a supplement to their protein source and weight loss.

Normally, there are different types of proteins available to add to coffee. The most popular one is whey protein. Others like peas, eggs, and mixed proteins are also available and perfect for use in coffee.

Benefits of adding protein in coffee

Coffee offers some potential benefits. Since there is no evidence of unwanted interaction between coffee and proteins, adding protein to coffee is great.

Actually, studies suggest that caffeine being a stimulant, can increase the rate at which proteins are absorbed in the body. Triggering acid secretion in the stomach can increase digestion and absorption of amino acids.

Here are some of the benefits of protein powder in coffee.

Facilitates weight loss

People looking to cut weight add protein powder to food to facilitate weight loss. Eating a lot of proteins and fewer carbs positively impacts weight reduction. This is because protein digestion requires a lot of energy and time.

Unlike carbs which are processed easily, leaving you hungry, proteins promote a feeling of fullness. Thus, adding proteins to your coffee reduces the frequency of eating and eliminates sugar cravings.

Proteins promote athletics performance

People who engage in extreme workouts tend to take in more proteins than carbohydrates. This is because proteins take longer to break and provide energy for a longer time.

With the ability to offer more energy over a long time, proteins are great for people looking to build endurance. Besides, taking proteins before workouts gives athletes faster post-workout recovery.

Besides energy and endurance, proteins are the muscle building blocks. Having enough protein supply in the body and workouts, you can be assured of more muscle mass.

Fix proteins deficiencies

Taking protein supplements is one way of addressing deficiencies. Especially when you take regular supplements, they help to fix the gap preventing you from deficiencies.

Supplementing is the best alternative when the available diets don’t provide enough proteins. Therefore, adding protein powder to coffee is one way of fixing deficiencies.

Downsides of adding protein in coffee

Although adding protein powders to food is common and has benefits, it also has downsides. Some of the downsides are listed below.

Elevated blood lipids levels

Having excess proteins in the body can lead to elevated blood lipids. The high lipid, Hyperlipidemia, can lead to cardiovascular problems and stroke.

Overloaded kidneys

Body can’t store proteins like in the case of carbohydrates. When there are excess proteins, the body breaks them through deamination. The resulting ammonia is expelled through urine. Although the process takes place in the liver, the kidneys do filtration, which can give them a lot of work.

How to make proffee?

Making a proffee should not be a complicated process. It only needs 3 ingredients, and you are ready to enjoy your drink. All you need is milk, protein powder, and coffee.

Step 1

Mix protein powder and milk. Froth the mixture or shake to mix well. Unlike frothing plain milk, the mixture doesn’t have a lot of foam.

Step 2

Prepare your coffee. You can use hot or cold coffee when making proffee.

Step 3

Mix your frothed milk and protein into coffee and enjoy.

Final words

Adding protein powder in coffee is perfectly okay. It makes a delicious and amazing drink that offers more than caffeine. With stimulating and fulfilling effects, the coffee offers exceptional satisfaction.
